Gday Guys,

Having a little trouble with a repair Im doing, on a Guyatone Compressor. The problem is that someone has removed the jacks somewhere down the line, and I have no idea how to identify the correct in / out / ground. Looked everywhere for a schematic, even the schematic of a Wesbury or Ampeg clone of this box, and no joy. Tried to wire it with what I thought was correct, and managed to get a signal through on bypass, but not on effect. Swapped my I / O's, and only got signal on effect.

Short of tracing the board,  I dont really have any ideas of where I could go from here, so I was wondering If anyone might be able to help me out with some advice or a schematic. The colored wires Im left with are, White, soldered to the right of the board, Brown, soldered to the left, Brown, soldered centered, and Black, coming from the Level pot. Perhaps If I could identify the input, I could use my signal probe to follow the signal around?

Any help greatly appreiciated,
Gaz

Accurate, high resolution pictures of top and bottom of the board would probably let us figure it out.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Gday RG,

Thanks for the quick reply! Anyway have attached the best pictures I could get my camera to take. Wondering what your exactly looking for? I tried to figure it out using a schematic of similar compressor, and looking for certain components to suggest where the in / out buffers were with no luck. Is this what your planning to do? And if so, what exactly are you looking for?

Hi Gaz,

From your photos it looks like the white wire on the bottom goes through a cap and a resistor to a transistor base (if they're ECB trannies like most Asian effects), so that's IN. The brown at top goes through a cap and resistor to an emitter. That will be OUT. The brown in the middle is hard to follow (I see it finding it's way to both ground and out of the 3080?). If ground is the only thing left, I'm going to guess it's ground!
