are 1n4002 rectifier type diodes good to use after the output buffer as protection?

protection against what, on the output buffer of what?  I usually use them in the power supply line in case someone hooks up a battery backwards (reverse biased)

Protection after the o-buffer? For What?

To me this make no sense, a protection before the i-buffer is OK (if you run a SHO or other Gain Booster in front of it) but I think even this is not  really necessary.

basically its at the output on a distortion box. Both clean and distorted channels are biased to vs so when you switch it's a bit dodgy, so after the switch wiper there's a cap to Vs followed by an unity opamp followed by a a pair of diodes going to + and - rails. I assumed it's to prevent any oscillations whilst switching.

Here's the schem!

Sure, 1N4002's will work as well as most diodes there.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

I'd use 'em...I think the 1N4XX series only differ by their max voltage ratings...Vf should be the same.  ;)
