Interference, how to get rid of it

I have just built teh Gus smalley NPN boost and am using it to drive a OD-2 into a SS amp. When i switch it on (and when the Od-2 is engaged) i get an interfernce that sounds like the seaside, just a constant scccchhhhhh, its not overpowering, and is not consistantly loud but it annoying. How do i help get rid of it or prevent it. I have the circuit in a temporay metal enclosure (old akai multi wah casing) but im also thinking that because its boosting the guitar its also picking up static from the pickups, leads and other circuitry and putting it through the extra OD pedal (set on normal, not turbo) maybe just boosting these frequencies as it does not do it when im boosting clean sounds. Just to mention also, i am using a BS170 in the socket rather than a high gain transistor (eg:BC549 548) Any suggestions or help, greatly appreciated. Cheers

I have some cheap cables in my effects loop and depending on what combo i use, i can get some crappy
static as well as some other unidentified sounds. I know its the cables cause when i put better ones in
their place the noise cleared up. That might be something to look at.

Doesn't the NPN Boost call for a Bipolar transistor?
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Yeah it does but the BS170 sounds great and works fine, better than the others i think, its a little cleaner and sounds better when being boosted into some dirt, really fills out the sound and tonal range. I dont think the BS170 would be causing the interference though would it?
