Hi, I`m about to build the tubescreamer from Tonepad and have all the parts, my only concern is the 1 uf caps, all i have in Non Polarised are Mylar and they are very large, i have 1uf electrolytic but i`m not sure which way they would be orientated. In the tone pad Photoessay the 1uf caps look very neat (the square ones i think) but i dont know what they are called or even if i can get them here in the UK, can someone point me in the right direction to where i can get them or if i can use the electrolytics, i`ve built quite a few pedals using PCB`s from GGG and now Tonepad and with great success and gigged every pedal and have every confidence in them but my lack of electronic knowledge lets me down when asking what i suppose to some are basic questions but i suppose thats why i use the forum, ..............now if anybody wants to know about making beer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)..........................................cheers Crawf.

Hi--

The ones in the Tonepad pic are miniature poly films by BC Components, and they are available on my Stock List at smallbearelec.com. If you prefer to use the electrolytics, people here can tell you how to orient them correctly.

Hi, Thanks for that, can someone tell me the correct orientation for electrolytics if i decide to use them, cheers Crawf.

There are quite a number of people who feel that the distinctive sound of a tantalum cap is part of the tubescreamer mojo. Just something to keep in mind. ;)

One way to tell for sure about polarity is to build the circuit without the two caps, power it up, and measure the voltage across the pads the caps attach to. The meter + will be the same as the cap +.

You can make an electro 1uF non pollar by soldering two 2.2uF back to back if I'm not mistaken.

Hey Crawf, now your talking! I could use a good recipe for a nice lager. My father recently offered me his supplies but I have not made any beer in a loooong time. Actually Dad always did most of the brewing I bottled and did most of the drinking  :icon_wink: :icon_biggrin:
