Hey guys.
As I was thumbing through the PartsExpress catalog that came with my recent order, I saw this:
http://www.designnotes.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=K8030&Category_Code=
(I know the link goes to another seller - but there's a lot more info here...)
Looks like something easily modded into performing like the Payback...with a lot less soldering!!  Let me know if I'm missing anything...

I have the Payback layout on a piece of PNP Blue right now and have almost all the parts...but am not quite ready to shoe-horn all my 'big' 1/4W resistors and caps into the 'mini' spaces...

Just thought I'd share.

It looks like that circuit uses the ISD1420. I did work on a Payback using the 14xx after I released the 25xx version and came up with these observations.

One of the biggest advantages of the 14xx is the control logic can be made alot simpler then the 25xx version especially if you do not want to have multiple loops. You can actually get rid of the whole NAND gate IC in that case. One of the biggest dissadvantages of the 14xx is the output. I could not reduce the popping on the output with anything else other then the transformer interface mentioned in the Payback article.

For this and other reasons I decided not to offer a 14xx version of Payback. I already have atleast one good build report of the 25xx Payback.

P.S. Don't forget the ground connection on the XCLK input (pin 26) if you are using Michael Allen's layout.
