Hey people!

I'd like to build a new wah circuit for use in my crappy japanese shin-ei companion. I'd like to have a wah that quacks like hendrix's, or the one on "Sir Psycho Sexy" by RHCP, or the Cream thing, or the one in the Doors' "The Changeling", well, guess y'all know what I mean by now ;) So I'd like to ask around a little for good idea's.

So, should I build the Clyde McCoy wah from fuzzcentral? That's the one that should have a sound most like this... And what inductor should I use? Red Fasel ? (seems nice yet cheap to me...just perfect :) ) And anyone who has experience with the "Roger Mayer Life Pot" (http://www.banzaieffects.com/Roger-Mayer-Life-Pot-pr-16300.html) they sell at banzai? seems like a good deal to me... And, I should do this "vocal mod" thing with a 100k resistor, right?

Thank you in advance for suggestions/idea's. And, maybe you've done this sort of thing? How did it work out? I'd love to hear your experiences....

Thanks, Chieljan ;)
I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or His Dudeness or Duder or El Duderino if you're not into that whole brevity thing.

There is a layout at GGG for mod-able wah.  It is basically the same circuit as the Clyde one at Fuzz Central (I believe one cap/resistor are in reverse order - I don't believe this makes a tone difference :icon_question:) but you can use trimmers for all the resistors that people like to play with (like the "vocal mod").  You could socket the transistors and the "sweep" cap if you  would like.  Then you can tinker with it all you want wihout wearing out the taces and pads on the board.  It also has holes for most every kind of inductor available.

I did a lyaout that is similar and posted it on Bancika's layout site.  THe only real difference is that it has filtering for a power supply on the board.

As far as inductors go - some people swear but certain ones.  I've tried a few and personally, I like the yellow Fasel over the red one.

I ask that you not chop up a vintage wah pedal.  I know the shin-ei is kinda crappy, but it is a classic and somewhat rare vintage effect.  You could put on ebay and easily sell it for enough to pay for a new crybaby to mod.  Crybabys are dirt cheap, and the enclosure is more solid anyway.  I have an older crybaby I've modded, PM me if you want to work out a trade.
