First off, i was not sure where to put this...it was between here and the wiring sheet page so if it is in the wrong place im sure one of the mods will move it.

I am building a 8 outlet power supply for my guitar FX pedals and so i posted on my electronics board asking for ideas, I came up with the following info.

Quote from: HiTechIf you play an axe and you also dabble with electronics then this site is a MUST! You'll spend days clicking through the myriad of links and good info.

The Xformer shouldn't introduce 60hz hum if you use a metal project box as well as keeping wires short and also loop a couple of turns of them through a ferrite donut or similar.
Below are some links to what you are looking for:

a very clean pwr. supply:

here is the complete page of details on the above "clean" power supply:

Of course there are many websites with similar pwr. supply projects but this one seems fine and dandy. /QUOTE]

some important update info

Quote from: Dr.EMThat clean supply posted with the LM317 is good. Something that seems silly to me is the use of a 25v transformer though. That gives around 34v at the input to the regulator! This high input voltage will waste serious power to give a 9v output. Use a 12v transformer instead if you use that design, it will give plenty of voltage, even 9v may do, it would with a lower dropout reg. You may need to up the value of the 1000uf smoothing cap though.

I just got parts in a day ago and ran into some things I had to change...I took out the 2K, 274ohm, "2k81" which is supposed to be 2k8 meaning 2.8k, and lastly I took out the second 2k resistor.

All those are not needed from what I'm told and whats better is putting a 120 ohm 1% in place of the "2k81" and replacing the 2nd 2k resistor with a 732 ohm 1%

The other way would give you lower than 9V output...This new layout will put out exactly 9V.

I just ordered those 2 resistors from mouser along with parts to mod the DS1 and soldered most of the power supply board

Soldering used to be hard work but with my new station its so much better

OK now here's one problem that really bugging me.
I have the 2.1mm power outlets for the front panel seen in the first two pics of that first link.
I cant just drill round holes for these as the shape is flat on one side and its taller than it is wide.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cut that shape into a piece of 1/8" chick aluminum plate?

I was thinking the dremel and a cutoff wheel but they are just still too big to cut something so small.
All I want it to be is spaced even and have a nice, clean, tight fit.

Thanks
Dave
