I fall into the category of one who loves to build analog effects, but is scared stiff of digital processing, or ... dare I say it ... MIDI!

Having said that, I have built about 15 effects and now want to do exactly what you are talking about (I think). I have been thinking about  a way to put my favorite 8 or so in a 1U rack enclosure and do random-access switching to any preset combination(s) of them.

As to how this thought process started, I came to the conclusion a long time ago that I like to have fine control and programmability over my time-based effects (phase, chorus, flange, delay, etc.).  I have never found a better way to do this than thru MIDI. I also like to put time-based effects after my distortion, in the effects loop.  That means having at least one rack multi-effects unit, so by necessity I am already carrying a rack.  D'Oh!!!

Since I have already built these pedals, in the additional rack enclosure I envision having a;

- Compressor
- MosFet Booster
- Mini Booster
- Rangemaster
- Fuzz Face
- BMP
- BSIAB II
- Dr. Boogey

All of these effects would be fed to the amp input.

I already own an Axess Electronics GRX4 Router Switcher (http://www.axess-electronics.com/). It works great to give you random access switching for any combination of up to four effects.

I know this sounds like a lot of work, but my plan is to buy a second GRX4 and remove the boards from both, then mount them in a 1U 10" deep rack chassis. Since there will be lots of real estate left over, I will mount all of the effects boards, panel mount the pots from the effects and LED's from the GRX4's, and hard wire the effects inputs/outputs to the loops in the GRX4. Presto!  Instant programmable multi-effects rack - just with all of my modded, tweaked up, battle-tested effects.

Since all of the effects and the GRX4 run off +9VDC, I figure I will build my own internal +9VDC Power Supply for the whole shooting match, and run it off a single wall plug.

Outside of the cost of building the effects, I fugure this will add a total of <$500.00 to my cost (including the cost of the GRX4 that I bought eons ago). Probably less than the cost of 2 booteek effects that I would never have bought anyway.  Cuz I am a cheap bastard.

No way! I thought you'd cleared off  . I was hoping you'd be able to check my design.
Yeah, parts are a tough one. After finding futurlec, ive had to start redesigning a lot of my stuff because of the newer cheaper better parts they provide. If possible, I'd recommend you order parts from them, the prices are absolutely fantastic, and their range of ICs is brilliant.
