Came across this after reading the treble booster post.

I assume this is the same SD as smallbear...?
Is it just me or are the old illustrations way better that the ones these days?

If it were from the same Steve Daniels they should be offered as kits at the Cave!
Both look like nice projects.

Yes. Those were among a bunch of articles I did to pay tuition at SUNY New Paltz. At the time, the magazines still had large readerships and could pay well. I never had to wait tables after I sold the first piece, and I graduated with virtually no debt, which I know is next to impossible to do today.

What Electronics Illustrated called the Guitar Tripler (I called it the Triple Treble Box) was really good for ear-splittingly sharp treble. I have it on my list to try again, now that I know a little better what I'm doing. The 2N1414 transistors in it are listed as a driver with a gain in the 50s. The GT is probably a good circuit for all of the low-gain-but-low-leakage stuff that I have around the Cave. Can get to it immediately, because I am busy re-working the Wild Mouse. But it will happen.

Wow that's awesome!!! Did you do the drawings too?
Looks like you were doing DIY boxes even before Craig Anderton. Very cool stuff.

Wow, New Paltz! Had a blast climbing at the Gunks back in the mid-80's. Fun place. Must have been a good place to go to school. Misquitoes were horrible as i recall tho.
