When to use buffers?

I know that buffering the intput and output is good for impedance.
Are there any other times that buffering is a good idea?
I'm working on a panner, and I need to split up the dry to both outputs, and split up the wet to both outputs (one inverted).
Is it best to buffer the signals as soon as they're split up?
