emi/rfi filtering for wah

I know that Teese Wahs have a passive emi/rfi filter.  Has anyone reverse engineered this?  Does anyone know if a voxv847 could be modded to have a filter placed?   Thanks for your comments

They do?! That seems like it would be hard to accomplish since the inductor by nature is susceptible to EMI. I would be interested to see how that could be done, too.

ive got teese wahs...and they all have ferrite beads, and a aluminum cap over the inductor...but nothing we dont already really know about.

unless youre playing your wah right over a power supply, i dont think emi/rfi has ever/will ever be a problem.

try NOT using carbon comp resistors.

try NOT using old unpotted inductors.

I have found that inductor based wahs are sensitive to things with motors - like a fan for example. Distance between the source of EMI and the wah seems to be the only way to deal with something like that.

The cap is likely not aluminum, but mu metal.

Wow- last time someone mentioned the 2 words Teese and reverse engineerin the same sentence Teese responded angrily bla bla bla. I see his point but like the rest Im always in search of new and better way of improving my wah.

:)  Yeah, I figured but someone else reading might cover their wah inductor/board with tinfoil and wonder why it made no difference.

The usual pf range RF suppression caps can be used as well - from B to C on the transistors, and on the input (1k resistor in series with the input, with pf range cap to ground after 1k).

tell that to the guy (that everyone knows) who puts tinfoil on his antenna to get better reception...

Great! I think everyone here would invite you to participate, just like Dave Barber and Zach Vex, among the other effects builders who post here. You'd be surprised how a little goodwill goes a long way.

Hi,

I don't really have anything to add to this.  I was a part of a similar discussion a year or so ago over at TGP, as some, if not most, of you know.  EMI is a bitch, plain and simple.  I'm hoping one of you bright guys/gals can come up with a realistic, and repeatable, solution to the problem.

Man, I don't know about being helpful creating goodwill.  A lot of crap gets thrown at me and I generally stay off BBS.

I just thought popping in, after the prior post, would be amusing.  Guess I should check my humour quotient.

Peace, Love, and Wah,
Geoffrey

Yep. That's the nature of the beast.  :icon_frown:

That's just a shame, isn't it? The forum sharks always screw it up for everyone else.  :icon_mad:

Yeah, back at ya.  :icon_wink:

I thought it was funny.  :icon_biggrin:  Good to see ya back. I wonder when the next time we will see ya here.
