can i skip the battery clip?

and just use a dc jack? if so how exactly would i wire it

  I'll tell how I wire 'em.
  [100uf +], I use a metal DC jack, the barrel, if in a metal enclosure is good contact, so I make the pin + and the Barrel -, for NPN Neg Gnd. at least.
  Actually I put the black and red wires to the - and + poles of the electrolytic, then put that on the DC jack, if there's not a cap across the power supply +/- already on the board.
  Just one example of wiring and types of jacks....
  Someone tell us why that's not the optimal way...probably because some effects may not like grounds here 'and there, better to use an isolated jack?

i saw this in the layout gallery, assuming that layout with the boss type jack will that work? using the usual negative pole (sorry i dont know if there are correct terms for the jack poles), and the other one going to the usual positive?  what about the third pole

One lug is ground, one is hot and the other is for the switch inside the DC jack. When you plug in a DC plug the switch inside takes off the battery connection.
I believe on the smallbear site where you order the DC jacks there is a diagram. SHould be at General Guitar Gadgets as well under the wiring diagrams.

ok, so the 3rd lug is unused unless there is a battery connected?

does that mean that nothing is connected to the ring of the input jack if i omit the battery clip?   (or should the ring still be grounded?)

that is the way i figured it out when i started.  THat is for negative ground. For positive ground, just make all the plus's a minus and make thall the minu's a plus.

AH! i remember seeing that pic.  i always like how smallbear labels their pics(like the stereo/mono jacks).  but what about the ring on the input jack, assuming i omit the battery clip and the 3rd pole of the dc jack is not needed...?

If you only intend to run with no battery, you can use a mono plug.
