I looked inside mine and found two surface mount LM13700s. I guess it's not an exact copy of the Small Stone unless EH used 13600/13700s in the last original version.

The rest of the pedal is about what you'd expect, all surface mount except one biggish square capacitor, probably a last minute change. A board mounted dpdt switch activated by a plunger that looks from the outside like a heavy duty dpdt. It sucks tone when bypassed as you would expect. The jacks are actually case mounted but the pot and colour (marked 'tone') switch are board mounted.

It sounds pretty good! I haven't had a chance to compare it directly to one of my original Small Stones but I don't think anyone looking for the EH sound will be too disappointed.

Replace the bypass switch, pot and (maybe) colour switch with better parts, which should be very easy, and you should have a pretty good pedal for not too many $.

I've got a friend who picked up the VP1 and he's been digging it.  The only thing is that there is a volume drop when the effect is engaged.  Someone told me this is a problem with the original pedal as well.  Anyone know of anything that can be done to try to remedy this?
