I have 2 old dmm's, both non-chorus / vibrato, just a 'squelch' switch.  Both were bought non-working.  One i got going by adjusting the trims but the it is quite distorted.

What's confusing me is that one has 2 taps from the mains transformer, both measurings approx. 28'ish V.  But the working (but noisy DMM) has 2 taps which measure approx. 15v each.

Help! What's right here?

Cheers,
Nick,

My new Fluke 27 is in the mail and I can help you then. I imagine the 15V one is the correct one. I have been having a hell of a time with noise with my DMM. I tried isolating the jacks w/ plastic washers, which helped some. However, I have recently decided that a big part of the problem is how the wiring is routed in the box. All the wiring that goes to the 3PDT is routed directly over the three secondaries coming from the transformer. I am going to try routing them around the far side of the box where nothing is going on. I'll let you know if that works for me, but it may take some time. You might try that on your own.

Hi Primus.  The noise on the 15v model is more just very distorted sounding repeats, I know old analogue units have 'character' but this is too distorted.  I was wondering if the voltage should actually be 29v and that the unit is running on half power?

I've true-bypassed the pedal anyway as it was a tone-sucker but these voltages are confusing the hell out of me!

Cheers,
Nick,
