What is the best 8" speaker for a Ruby?

I don't know a tremendous amount about speakers - except that I like 12L EVs and Vintage 30's in most cases... they have some 'thunk' to their sound and the highs are on the softer side IMO and can deliver some power without being too dark. All of which I like and that is really my goal for a new Ruby project.

I need a much smaller amp for several playing situations and I got the perfect (IMO) enclosure for a ruby from a music store sale - it's a ~10" cube and it has holes for 8" speakers on opposite sides. My idea was to make a pair of Rubys and put them into this enclosure to drive one speaker each - in different 180 degree directions - in an on/off and mono/stereo switchable config using a stereo chorus for the channel separation.

So I did some searching here and did not see too many recommendations on 8" speakers brands/models. I'm far from a sim/emu purist too, but I'm looking for something that would give me more of a 12" Vintage 30 sound rather than a 12" Jenson sound in an 8" speaker. Has anyone had a good experience with an 8 inch speaker that might do the job?

Also, in your opinion, would it be better to mix a speaker with more highs (like a Jenson) with one that has a bit more 'thunk' (like an EV)... Would this be the best of both worlds in 2x8" speakers - or not a good idea - based on your experience?

Thanks for any advice on this!
