Bored and messin with my Tube Screamer again.

I have a couple of old TS5's with one modded to 808 specs and on with the Fullclone mods.  I really never use them anymore.  I came across the following mod here.  Since these are the 5 series, the pot change wouldn't be too easy.  I'm assuming that doing this mod, but keeping the 500k pot would work, but have less gain.  Any reason it wouldn't work?

R6=1K
C3=.22uf
R7=10K
R19=1 Meg (10 detents) Drive pot

I guess my real question is would I loose enough gain doing the cap and resistor change to make it not worthwile without the pot change?
