Hi folks,
I'm busy with moddin my wah. I builded in the true bypass switch, q-control and a frequency switch.
I know that if I lift up the 4.7u cap, this pedal will work as a volume pedal. How can I implantate this mod by using the bypass switch?

I don't understand what you need. You mean to turn bypass switch to wah/volume switch? Or to add additional stomp switch?
Check out Tonepad wah project. It has something like that
The new version of DIY Layout Creator is out, check it out here

Hi,,
Yes I want to turn bypass switch to Wah / volume.

But wouldn't it always be on? I guess that would work but for some reason it seems that accidentally knocking the wah and subsequently making the volume louder or non existent could really throw your playing off. Interesting idea though. Keep us posted.
I love the smell of solder in the morning.

if you have to lift just one leg of the cap, you can attach the flying lead of the cap to the outer lug of a spdt switch, then attach the middle lug to where the flying lead of the cap used to go.

I think that's right.  with the switch toward the cap/lead combination you get wah, if the switch is pointing away, you'll get volume.  That's if your mod info is correct.
Try a little tenderness.

Hi ,
Builded in a second toggle switch and wired it with the lifted cap. With this mod I have wah, volume and true bypass.
more mods:
For the vocal mod I placed a 100k pot and for the sweet cap I placed a rotaing switch. Ripped the input buffer ;D.
replaced several resistors
And it sounds great/better.

Hey there!

I've spent the last couple afternoons (okay, well into the middle of the night) working on modding my Cry-Baby(GCB-95), wanting it to do exactly as IORR described above:
<True Bypass> – Wah / Volume

I've changed to DPDT on the switch (for true bypass), removed the input buffer, and swapped a couple resistors/caps (tone mods), and as a Wah pedal its GREAT.
I have a second DPDT to use for Wah/Volume (lifting the capacitor's leg).
There's a spare set of switch contacts availible, that I've tried to solve my dilemma with, but am having no luck.

It works fine in Wah (those tone mods made a MASSIVE improvement in how well the Wah works), and the true bypass is SWEET... BUT....

In the "volume" mode, with "toe down" its full volume (as it should be), and after removing the input buffer seems to lose very little tone,
but when I go "toe up", it only decreases the volume a small amount (not NEARLY down to silence)!

I've tried so many different combinations/possibilities the desk is now saturated with solder, I've lost too much sleep, and I'm starting to lose hair!

Do you <IORR> have the same situation (i.e a volume "reducer", but not full range of volume control)?
If you do, then I'm sure you're sharing my frustration, and if I can find a fix I'll be glad to share it.

If you don't have this trouble, I'd be immensely grateful for a hint as to how you got yours to work!
I opened my yap and told the band this would be ready for the next gig... which is tomorrow night!

Help?
Anyone?
Please?
Thanks, too.

Hi atokad,
Sorry for answering so late.....vacation.... . I've got the same volume prob and it's not solved because I only need to adjust the vol-signal. so for me this is not a really problem.
My signal turns automatically off by using a noise gate. In real work I'm hardly using the cry vol. Allmost using the guitar pot. It's quicker.

No problem on the late answer, and thanks for taking time to send it.  At least I know that in here I'll get the courtesy of getting one, lol.  Some of the Forums I've tried, both musically and otherwise, are a bit "stiff" with outsiders, lol.

As to the problem, yeah.  I tried a few different ways, and then sat down and sort of "re-taught" myself some of the electronics I've forgotten over the years, and as designed, the circuit can't take the signal to zero.  Its inherent in the first half of the Wah being an "amp", of sorts.

I just got so frustrated before I settle down and "thought the ciruit out", lol.

In the end... the same place I got the used GCB-95 had another "shell" laying around, for $5.  I built a simple Volume pedal out of it on some breadboard (with True Bypass), and have it side-by-side with the Wah.  Problem solved, and in all reality, its probably a better setup, as I can now:
           A) Set the Wah at a certain fixed-point "tone" for the needs of the song, etc.
           B) Use the Volume pedal for Swells, Fades, etc, retaining the Wah tone (which would have been impossible)

So... final result, one extra pedal, but all the features I need, and more flexibly controllable.  I guess the saying "ya can't there from here" applied, but I found an alternate route to get where I wanted to be.

Thanks again for the response, and I'll be spending a little more time in here poking about ;)
