A friend of mine encountered some problems building the Orange Sunshine Fuzz and at first I wanted to verify his layout.
He started out using this layout:
http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album06/ORANGE_SUNSHINE_FUZZ_PERFBOARD
which had a few mistakes, so I've found this:
http://www.diystompboxes.com/pedals/orange.jpg
schematic to verify it with, and the differences were that R3 wasn't connected to anything at one side, which appeared to be to the power source and in the schematic R4 didn't appear.
I've "fixed" his layout and it yet didn't work.
So I've used Electronic Workbench, a program which I've been using a lot in school, and it showed me a 100+ negative db between the input and the output

Can anyone more experienced find the problem? Have I misread the schematic? Is it just another version? Is my checkup wrong? Is the circuit incorrect?

tcobretti

Everything looks right except that R3 should go to +9v.  The 1M resistor is to prevent the pedal from popping when you stomp the switch and doesn't otherwise affect the sound.

Did you use 1K for R6? It's hard to see with the pic on ImageShack.

Opencan

tcobretti, thanks for your reply :)
Dragonfly, yes I did.
aron, yes. It shrinked my picture for a reason :X

Well, guess I just didn't use he Electronic Workbench right or something, I'll tell him all of that and see what he've done wrong.

Thanks all :)

Hey..
So - did this layout work or didn't it.? If not; which changes have to be made.?

Opencan

I don't know yet, haven't talked with my friend for a while.
I'll send him this layout hoping it will help.  ;)

I'll update this topic when i'll get more info.

Looks like the .1uF on the input is shorted.

Yeah, the 22k feedback resistor should be where it is with that jumper to the base, but the cap and the 1meg to ground should be down a row with a cutout so they don't short to the base of the first transistor.

PabloHoney

Okay - thanks..

But where exactly should I change something on the layout to get it working.? (not that I've built it - but i'm about to)
Can you draw it on the layout e.g.

Dragonfly

Make a trace cut between the input cap and the jumper on the "in" strip.

PabloHoney

A trace cut.? Sorry but I'm not that technical..  :icon_confused: Would you please draw it for me - I would be very pleased!  :icon_biggrin:

Perf layout is correct except for R3 as tcobretti mentioned it needs connected to +9V, its not connected to anything now. Connect R3 here - http://aronnelson.com/gallery/albums/Richard-Boop-RLBJR65/ORANGE_SUNSHINE_FUZZ_PERFBOARD.gif

On the vero layouts input strip you have the 1M, the .1uF cap then the jumper wire. Use a razor knife or something to cut through the Trace (strip) between the .1uf and jumper wire. Trace (strip) cut - http://aronnelson.com/gallery/albums/Richard-Boop-RLBJR65/untitled.gif

Hope you don't mind me reposting these Andrew! I'll take them off in a day or 2.

Thanks  ;D And thanks for all the answers - even though this isn't my thread.. but anyways  :P
