germanium transistors (Arons OC's) paired with germanium diodes yields a FAT fuzz/hint of octave tone...

i just thought id share that, i think ill post clips on my sunshinewahs page within an hour...

i love my green ringer.  ;D

Oooh, nice idea. I've built two of these, one with the null carrier mod.

The funny thing is, the first one I built didn't do an octave at all. I just couldn't get it to octave. I buried it away inside my fuzzlab and found that it did something completely different--it was like a harmonically-rich treble boost. I can't describe the tone although I think I had a recording of it on my fuzzlab demo mp3.

Regardless, to this day, I still don't what I did wrong to that specific GR. It sounds fantastic and I can use it to add harmonics and warmth to any pedal. I'm just afraid of opening up the fuzzlab to extract the GR :)

Don't you just hate it when you screw something up SOMEWHERE, but you don't know where, but then it turns out your screwup actually completely rules?  And you're terrified at the thought of trying to figure out, since you might unbreak it and make it not rule anymore?  Man.  Sorry to be a hijacker, but if you have any suggestions on how to track down exactly what is different, I'd love to hear them.  That first BSIABII I built came out like that.  I think not knowing the cause makes it more magical.

I suspect that most wizards would disagree. Sure, wizards always SAY it's magic, but they would, wouldn't they? :icon_wink:

Battle of Mid Way:
What were the specific part numbers you used.  I have had some trouble with my GR and got it working last night but very weak thin sound.  Still needs some work but I am curious as to what you used.  Thanks, Steve

i got all the resistors and caps from small bear, the diodes from aron, and the transistors are Q1 2n5089, Q2 Aron's Germanium, Q3 2n5089. the sound IS sort of thin, but gets thicker if used before a fuzz/distortion.

  Arent' those NPN Ge's?
The GR takes one 'reverse' transitor...depending on Pos or Neg gnd. one of the transitors is a...well it'd be two NPN and a PNP or
  Two PNP and an NPN...
GR Can sound good/very interesting 'circuit bent' though.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

sound clips are up of this, with a bc109 tranny in Q2 and germanium diodes.
