Anybody built the Umble?

Okay, I built the umble, set the trimpots so that I got 4.5v across the Drain and 0 on the Gate of the J201s.  Everything works pretty well.  The questions I have is the volume control seems to control the distortion tremendously.  Even if I have the volume at almost 0 and turn up the master there is still quite a bit of distortion.  Is there any way of getting a little less distortion and more of an overdriven sound or is this the way the pedal is supposed to sound?

I've built the Umble once.

The controls are indeed highly interactive to each other.

I can't remember if i had the same "symptoms",
but all i remember is that i never got to bond with that pedal so i dumped it.

IMO there are many pedals in ROG that are way better than the Umble.

btw i used the enclosure i drilled for Umble for aron's Smash Drive, which is a very nice mid to high gain OD - distortion pedal.
