anyone have opinions on low power op amps (e.g. LM358) for overdrive?

Just wondering how a low power op amp, like the National LM358, might sound in an OD unit? Or a compressor? Are they noisier than, say, a 4558? If there are low power op amps that would be acceptable (subjective, I realize) it seems you could build a TS that would last a long time on one battery.
