ill be building the dr. boogey and boogeyman (and the 800 emu too, prolly) from bucksears' site, and will do without the 3PDT switch, as i want them to be "preamps" for my girlfriend's setup. shes using an old 50 watt tube traynor head, and it sounds fantastic with pedals. but her POD just aint happening.

the switching will be with a A/B switch, to choose between clean channel and distorted, or distorted/more distorted. i know it sounds like more work that i should be doing, but i want the distortions to be in a large enclosure up on the head.

so anyways, how should they be wired so that im not using a 3PDT switch? thank you!

So you want to select between 2 different circuits that you will always be using (eg: no need for bypass)?
take your general true bypass setup with a DPDT switch (top 2 lugs go to fx board in/out, middle 2 lugs go to jacks, bottom 2 lugs are connected together), but instead of the connecting the bottom 2 lugs connect them to the in/out of the 2nd fx board.
    fx1 in |o o| fx1 out
input jack |o o| output jack
    fx2 in |o o| fx2 out

So. let's get a little more info. The amp is a single channel right?  You just want to switch between  the Boogey and the amp's single channel?
Just trying to understand why you need to A/B ? It would essentially be the same thing, since if you use the 3P3T it's true bypassed.

the pedal board she has is already "filled", as she likes to keep it simple. she has a wah i built for her, a phase90, and a flanger is on the way. she only has room for an A/B switch. she doesnt want the distortion on the floor because she said that "it looks like a cooler setup with the Distortions on top of the amp, like a rack."

(if you met her, youd NEVER expect a metal head, shes such a "cheerleader" hahah)

the amp has 2 inputs, so it will still be true bypassed.

im also building one for myself, as 95% of the time, im using the distortion channel.

Seljer, ive been reading the comment, and thinking about it...thats exactly what im going to do! haha...i never actually thought about that, as i couldnt comprehend putting it together. but now it makes ALOT of sense, and i will be doing just that. thank you alot!

He wants 3 channels...

1. Clean (Amp)
2. Distorted (Boogeyman)
3. More Distortion (Dr. Boogey)

If I was you i'd do 2 dpdt switches;

Second one will be wired as Seljer said and the first will be wired to switch between clean and you Dr.Boogey and Boogeyman setup. The wiring should look something like this...

In this setup, Sw.1 will be clean/distorted and Sw.2 will be gain/more gain.

Hows that sound?

Using a DPDT switch for Dr. Boogey resulted in oscillation for me. I found two ways to solve the problem both unacceptable: 1/ Cut high frequencies via guitar tone pot. 2/ Keep the input and output wires at least 1/2 inch away from each other which means I can't use the switch anymore.
The other thing I noticed is the volume pot acts like a high cut filter - I'm getting the right tone only when it's on max otherwise it cuts the highs too much.

jonathan perez

maybe you did something wrong for the volume to simply dull the highs. that doesnt sound very good.

maybe two spdt switches? haha...hmm...ill work on it as soon as i get the boards and components.

Metalguy - Your volume pot shouldn't be cutting highs. From what the schematic says its just a variable resistor at the output of the circuit. I used a 3PDT for my Dr. Boogey and crammed everything into a tiny DOD enclosure and I haven't had any oscillation problems :D

midway - Just out of curiosity, are you wiring it as I said or with just a switch to go between boogeyman and dr. boogey?

your method is just a larger take on what Seljer recommended, and what im going to do IS in fact use a carling dpdt.

the carling will switch between on and clean. the other switch switch will choose between BOOGEYMAN and DR.BOOGEY.

i cant wait til this project is done!  ;D

Yeah it sounds like a cool idea, now after talking about it i'm considering doing something like it in the future  ;D
