First of all gents, the FAQ is killer! I had a read through there and I bet 90% of our questions as newbies are probably answered on there or addressed!

Now here comes my very simple question which I did not find the answer to. Looking at the Thunderchief material list, these pots are listed:

1M log
100K Log
100K- timmer

I understand the trim pots but are the other two Linear or Audio? I see this in a lot of projects and I am just wondering if it is not specified, whether it implies linear.

I also ssaw the section on LEDs and bypass switches used for the light on effect only. In this circumstance, does the size of the LED really matter? Or can I pick something up, install it, drill a hole in the pedal casing and have my pedal indicate when the effect is in use?

That's it.. thanks!

Log pot == Audio pot

You can use any LED you like as long as the current through it is within its limits.
Sometimes 3mm LEDs are considered for 10 or 15mA max, while 5mm LEDs are typically rated at 20mA.  Nevertheless, tipical LED current in a guitar FX will be somewhere between 1mA and 5mA so as to help with battery life.

In other words I should be good to go with any 3mm led. thanks for clarification on the POTs!
