I want to try an alternative to my BSIAB , so here it goes my new, more compact (14x14) perf layout. A couple of jumpers however, but it looks right to me. I'm going to use it soon....

I like the Thunderchief better myself.  I find it to be perfectly voiced and a bit more thicker and raw than the BSIABII.  I tried all the ROG mods and my favorite is the addition of a bright switch by lifting one of the small caps (in fact, this was the only mod I made permanent).  Seems like I also threw in an MPF102 for Q1 to quiet it down a bit but, I'll have to check to make sure.  The TC also plays better with other pedals such as my OD and boost.  Running a OD before the BSIABII seemed to have little effect in comparison to the TC.  I will say the BSIABII does sound smoother on the neck pickup and has a bit more chime with single coils.  If I could translate the tone shaping of the TC over to the BSIABII I think the BSIABII would be perfect.

Yeah I was thinking 2N5457 instead of J201 to open it up a bit. How are the bass frequencies? The only thing I don't like about the BSIAB is the lack of bass, even after having messed with some caps. I put it beside the Dr Boogey and the difference was "brewtal". The chief seems to be flatter sounding judging from the sound samples I've heard.

I'm telling you the frequencies are perfect.  You won't miss the tone knob at all.  Use the bright mod if you want a brighter sound that is a bit more raspy.
