Rebote 2.5 Bad Noises

Hi everybody,

I have built a Rebote Delay 2.5, it's working but it's making noise, a kind of clacks and a dark hiss, all the noise come from the delay step of the circuit, I replaced the PT2399 with a new one and the problem is the same.
My only mistake was to put the 78l05 in the worng way. Maybe an electrolitic cap was burned with that mistake???? 
I put a 20k pot insted a 25k pot, I have tried even with a 100k pot with the same noise. What would be wrong????? I need helo, this is my first delay... And I started to love it, but the noise is making me nuts...

Can you post the voltages of the 78l05?
You should be metering 5vDC at pin 1 on the 2399
and
around 5-8volts DC at pins 3 and 5 on IC2.

The TP layouts are bit tight, thats a good thing.
Is that what you are using?

I had to start the Small Clone Chorus over again
with a fresh PCB because of noise. It worked but was very noisy

I faced up to it and realized the PCB was soldered too sloppy.
Your soldering is probably much better. I salvaged as many components from the first attempt as I could.

I also got a new soldering iron with a very narrow tip.
I had built a couple of amps and several GGG layouts with an Weller soldering pencil with a
fat tip. It seems huge and clumsy to me now but it worked for boosts and fuzzes.
Much less room for error in the advanced TP builds. They demand a narrow tip iron with more than 50 watts.
Whats on your bench?

I was told I needed to clean the solder flux off the board to get rid of subtle noise.
Probably won't help your situation but a good thing to do anyway.
I use a solder wire now that has water soluble flux and I wipe the board with a warm wet towel to remove flux.

Doing all these "best practice" things helps a lot on the advanced TP builds.
My second Small Clone Chorus PCB worked just like the build reports said it does.
A successful build and several others.
It's time to buy a gun. That's what I've been thinking.

I'm getting a multimeter, I will post the voltages.
I have an old solder iron, it's 30 watts. I have built an small clone without problems, that why I feel annoyed with the rebote.
I was changing the wires, I put the input away from the output and the noise got reduced, but there's  still some pops in the same way of the delay speed, It's something weird. Maybe rebuild this project, or maybe built a rebote 2.0.

hey plucky. pushtone gave u some good advices especially if ur new at this and u have to learn the basics. if u dont improve those "little" things whatever u will do will probably have "problems".

now, if we assume that those basics is not a problem in our situation then here are some more advices.

1. when a part (cap, resistor, ic, tran etc) is not workin u can figure out with 2 ways. 1st checkin with a multimeter and 2nd (easiest and i suggest it) audio probe the circuit. think u know what an audio probe is and how u check a circuit with it!? if not let me know and i'll give u a link. i had once a problem with a ts808 built and solve it in 30 secs with an audio probe when with the multimeter i was trying for days. do it! trust me.

2. when u need help, we need more details. for example, the delay pops u r listening to could be because when u do true bypass wiring if u dont switch the output but switch the input u still get the signal from the circuit, read this article here http://www.singlecoil.com/tb-strip/tbstrip.html. remember we need info on what u've done. have u got a true bypass or not?

3. dont get mad with it. it will work at the end. if u dont find out whats ur mistake u might do it again in an attempt of rebuilting it. even if not, still u learn. so stay with it and at the end it will work perfectly. trust me. we'll help.

4. check carefully for wrong values. it may happen some times. if ur not sure about a cap and the marking on it ask us.

thats some things for a start. do these and then if nothing happens ask again and again till we find the answer. dont worry. everything works at the end. just dont feel angry with it. take it as something that has to happen in order to learn more.

Well... I used an audio probe, and I noticed that the delay output of the pt2399 is the responsable of the noises, I'm sure that maybe an wrong solder.... I don't know... I'll build another one, maybe the 2.0 version....
