Adding a reistor after a POT

i finished the Grace Overdrive pedal recently, sounds great i have to say. anyway

I wired up a volume pot to the effect, its just before the output. Now when i have it on full volume(i'm guessing thats no resistance from the pot ?) the sound is too harsh and "fart" like. If i back it up a tiny bit it it has the same volume but no harshness/fartyness.

So i thought of putting a resistor after the pot so that it can never reach full volume/no resistance, and hopefully i will get a great sound with any pot position.

Would this work ? what value would you recommend ?

I'd take a pot and clip it in and try out to see what value I'd want as a fixed resistor there, when it's sounding/working the way you like, remove/measure/replace the testpot with a Fixed value.
10k's probably 'just noticable, 120k would be getting kinda big I guess.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

ahh i see.

after i've figured out the required resistor. can i still have the pot there to control the volume after i have found the best range of the effect ?
