  What resistor[s wouuld you recommend starting with to provide an altered taper to a 100k linear pot to make it a better Volume Control?
  From W to G [wiper to ground]?
  From W to I [wiper to pot's input]?

A resistor from wiper to ground of a value about 1/4 to 1/5th of the total pot resistance. This is covered in some detail at GEOFEX : The Secret Life of Pots.
