Q: Wiring 3PDT Switch For True Bypass Mod On Dunlop Wah

Hi guys.  I'm going to mod my wah this weekend using the Moller instructions here http://www.stinkfoot.se/andreas/diy/mods/dunlop.htm.

I'm a little confused about using an LED and 3PDT switch.  I see that compared to the DPDT diagram, the 3PDT swith simply adds another row of lugs.  But the picture in the instructions, of the wired up 3PDT confuses me.  How is the LED wired to the #PDT lugs and power jack?  I believe they are the intertwined red and black leads but I'm not sure how the LED goes to the switch and then the jack.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Well, I did my wah last weekend and what I did was have one wire going from the + lead of your battery / dc jack (whatever you want) to lug #9 of the switch.  If you're looking at the switch straight on with the lugs laying horizontal I refer to them as such:

123
456
789

Now to wire the LED, you want to solder a 1-4k resistor (play around with the values, the lower you go the brighter it will be) to the cathode of the LED (shorter leg) and then connect that leg to lug # 6.  The other leg on the LED will be your ground.  You can ground it to the board or the ground on the pot.  I chose to gound mine on the sleeve of the input jack.  Hope that helps, good luck!

Thanks alot!  I need to compare it to the Moller diagram to really "see" it.

I appreciate the help.

Hi guys.  I'm still confused.  I've got my parts ready but still am unclear as to how to wire the LED to the switch and PCB according to http://www.stinkfoot.se/andreas/diy/mods/dunlop.htm.  I'm referring to this picture specifically:

The instructions say to solder the limiting resistor to the cathode leg of the LED and then to "connect that to the switch".  Which lug?  Then it says to "attach another wire from the switch to back to the negative point on the switch".  OK, I know where the neg. on the switch is but what lug on the switch.  The other question that begs is, where is the other leg of the LED wired to?  In the other pic on the page it shows the resistor on the LED and a red wire.

Sorry for being a pain in the @$$.  But after building a guitar, some cabs and doing other electronics mods, this is the first pedal mod I've tried and I'd really like to get it right.

Thanks!

Have a look at this image http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/switch_lo_3pdt_ig_battery.gif
It explains it better than I can.

If you want to do it like in the picture you've posted then the anode (long lead) of the LED goes to 9volts. Then attach your resistor to the cathode (short lead) of the LED and attach the other end of the resistor to one of the middle lugs of the switch. Thats what the red wire is, the heat shring tubing on is is probably covering up the resistor. The black wire to the right of the red wire is then going to ground.

hope that helps :)

Thanks it definitely helps.  I found a diagram on Stew-Mac and it basically illustrates what you just stated.  I'm ready to go now.

Thanks again!
