I have a noob fantasy where this thing sounds amazing for guitar, but my somewhat limited experience tells me that I am probably wrong.
I am going to try it, but I just wanted to see what the wizards here thought. (I'm just a hobbit)
The IC is a 4069  Hex Inverter IC.It's powered via a voltage doubler fed by the input. My idea is to use a 1 watt Amp kit that I have laying around to power it. I'm really curious about how the obviously not sinusoidial guitar signal would interact with the powering scheme...But so far I am at a loss. I assume that the average voltage is what matters but...

Anderton's Tube Sound Fuzz and all the children of that circuit place all the inverters in linear mode while the circuit you just posted has only the 1st stage biased into linear operation so I would say they're quite different.

You could drive that circuit with an amp, but it would be easier to just eliminate the voltage doubler and power the 4069 directly. The center two stages are also unnecessary, as the set of three inverters will do the same thing. The only difference in the output will be a couple of nanoseconds less propagation delay through the circuit.

The powering scheme will average any signal coming through it so I wouldn't look for it to make any real difference.

Going off into left field.... now if you powered the circuit with a little amp and fed the signal input with a delayed version of the guitar, you might get some interesting results as the notes faded away with the power to the inverter fading away before them, but I doubt it would be super interesting.

As you experiment with inverters, keep in mind that there are two styles; buffered and unbuffered. The unbuffered ones have the letters "UB" after the number while the buffered ones just have a "B". Normally for inverter fuzzes you want the "UB" versions only, but since this thing is putting out a digital square wave, you may want to try them both.

Thanks for the reply. I will definatly try those Ideas out.
I am currently in the "Plug and Play" or "solder by numbers" stage of all of this, but the info floating around here is rapidly pushing me into the realm of "can think of nothing else" thanks to all who make this place so awesome.
