DS-1 gaind knob not working properly??????????

Hi guys, I haven't been here in a while. Feels good to be back!! I modded up a DS-1 with the Melanhead mod I found here, and it sounds GREAT. the only thing is that the pedal doesn't really start to add distortion until I'm 3/4's of the way up on the drive knob or even all the way up to get distortion out of it. I have 2 LED's in the clipping section so, would this be causing the drive knob to not clip as early or is thier something i missed? Thanks

1 - Yes , LED's clip much later than little silicons
2 - Check the orientation of both LED's, I did a "rushed" TS-9 mod once and had both
diodes in the same direction ->l  ->l   !!
Sounded kind of "hard and knarly" with OD only at top of gain rotation

cool ... yup it shouldn't be behaving this way, or at least I don't remeber it doing that.
