Hey everyone,

Lately i was thinking of doing some mods to my guitars, and maybe some pedals.
And for the sake of science (well not really), i though t would be a good idea to record some sound clips ,to compare the before and after sound.

So my question;
How do you do recordings of your guitars?

Well, I've done everything from cassettes to wav files or mp3s.  You can record using a mic'd amp, or using lineout to a computer/other recording device.  Right now I use a Marshall DRP-1 (Direct Recording Preamp) and hook it straight up to my PowerMac and record.  I use GarageBand for the most part.
Life is what you make it.

I'm collecting many sound sample from my handbuild pedal since 3 years ago. Basicly im recording it using a dynamic microphone straight to my soundcard, or sometimes if i want to play around, i use 2 microphones or more and wire it to my Yamaha mixer then to my computer. for a direct recording, im using Behringer Ultra G.

I second Audacity.  I had never used it (I use Wavelab and Sound Forge for audio editors) but knew of it and your post prompted me to download it.  I was impressed with what it offered at no cost.  You could use one of those cheap computer mics hooked directly into your sound card but for better quality audio you might get a USB interface.  I was surprised to note how much the price on these has inflated.  A couple years ago I got and Edirol UA-3D - entry level interface for about $40.  The least expensive unit that would compare to that now runs like $100.  I guess the popularity of home recording is growing and the manufacturers have increased prices to match demand.  There are super-basic USB interfaces for less but would require you to get a mixer of some sort.  A better quality mic might cost anywhere between $50 - $100.  So alot depends on how elaborate you want your setup to be and how much are you willing to spend.  This might be one of those occasions when Ebay comes in handy for used equipment.

I use garage band too, for demos and such.  It's not a complex editor, but it does have some halfway decent preamps and effects, and it's super simple to use.  I also picked up a Snowball USB mic from Blue Mic.  It sound's pretty damn good for a USB mic, and I like that I don't have to bring along an interface.  I bring my laptop and snowball to band practice and record all of our new ideas.  No more arguing about how we played something last practice.

Hii:
I use a microphone directly to the sound card, I was told USB 24bit interfaces are great.
Check this out ;)
