Ok so a quick question,

I am ordering some stuff from Banzai (http://www.banzaieffects.com/)

And i have some questions;
1) They offfer
'' Aluminum Box A3, sheet metal
SKU: SKU17492

102x72x28mm
Our price: €3.75 ''

and simlar products,

a) Is the above a Sheet or a Box??
b) Is it good big enough for the following projects;
i) Aron's NPN Booster
ii) Electra Distortion
iii) Green Ringer
iv) Dallas RangeMaster

2) Is it more worth it to buy the above (3.75 Euros) (if it is a box), and order the switches, jacks etc seperately ,
Or should i just buy the set they offer (15 Euros) which includes;
# Taiwan Box, Size; BB
# 3PDT True Bypass Switch
# Red Standard LED 5mm
# carbon composition series resistor for LED
# LED socket chrome, reflecting outwards
# DC jack 2.1mm insulated, Taiwan
# 1 Taiwan Stereo Jack
# 1 Taiwan Mono Jack
# Battery snap, I-Style, soft
0,5m stranded wire
# 4 Adhesive rubber feet, standard

3) They also offer sets of Resistors ,caps etc..
a) Do you think sets are worth it?

4)Sets like the ones mentioned above they offer the following;
a) 300 Resistors for 4 euros (Value Pack: 300 pieces.5%, 1/4W, several common types, packed in separate bags )

b) Mylar Capacitors, 100 pieces
(Value Pack: 100 pieces. Several common types, packed in separate bags.
Our price: €8.75)

c) Ceramic Disc Caps, 200 pieces
Value Pack: 200 pieces.50V minimum, several common types, packed in separate bags
Euros; 6.00
d) Electrolytic Caps, 100 pieces
Radial and some axial Electrolytic Capacitors. In various voltages and sizes.100 quality pieces, packed in separate bags
Our price: €7.51

----WHich of the above packs do you think are worth it?
both price wise and wheter i will use them or not.

5) Are Mylar Caps the same a Film or poly-film caps?

6) Which pots should i be looking at?
http://www.banzaieffects.com/Potentiometers-c-290.html?

Thanks,

Paul

1) its a box, made out of sheet metal, not a solid piece of casted aluminium
and yeah, its should fit most of those things, those dimensions put it at slightly smaller than the Hammond 1590B but all those circuits are pretty small

2) Those sets are pretty convenient. But just do the math for how much you'd pay for box+footswitch+jacks+dc jack+battery snap+led+rubber feet

3,4) they seem to just resell the sets of components from http://futurlec.com/ValuePacks.shtml . And yeah, they're pretty cheap and do a good enough job at stocking up most of your supplies but they're missing a lot of in between values (though theres enough resistors and stuff that you can combine to get a value you otherwise wouldn't have). YOu can occasionally find even larger/cheaper assortments of resistors and caps on other sites.

6.) Alpha 16mm are the most common ones for stompboxes

Wow, thanks :)

ANy other opinions?

pedaltastic

You can cram an electra distortion into pretty much ANYTHING. I put mine into a weeny little box the depth of a battery and just a few inches long!

What about;
5) Are Mylar Caps the same a Film or poly-film caps?

Guys, does anyone have a suggestion about the cheapest internet shop to buy "Hammond enclosure - 1590B" ?  I am from Europe :)

Mylar & Poly film caps are not the same, but interchangeable for MOST things...check any notes that come with schematics for info about how critical they are.  I've never had a single problem interchanging cap types...sometimes you do need a polarized cap where indicated, tho.

And I don't do a lot of phasers, etc., where that might be important.  I think they are quieter, and mylar/poly may be "darker" sounding; not terribly critical for distortion circuits!  I use ceramic or poly film most places, perfer poly film for signal path...the prices you are looking at seem very reasonable to me; I'd get some of each!
