Two boss pedals acting funny

Hey to all my favorite troubleshooters, here I am with yet another set of problems  :icon_cool:  This time, they arent my fault, but the good ol USPS's who decided they'd cause three pedals of mine that I shipped out at the same post office on the same day (in seperate packages) to magically stop working.  And I marked them fragile.

Anyways, I've got a DS-1 here that works perfectly, sounds great.  Problem is, after being on for maybe 10 or 15 minutes, it'll turn itself off and set to bypass.  Then, when you step on it, it wont activate again.  However, once I disconnect the cable and the power supply, then reconnect, I'm good for another 10 or 15 minutes.  What gives?

Also, I've got a CE-3 here than only "choruses" when I move the depth knob.  If I leave it still its a normal dry signal, but when I move the depth knob I can hear the chorus effect.  what the crap?

Many thanks.

The switching in a Boss pedal is not physical of electronic by means of fet transistors I believe. If you give contact it switches, if you hit it again it switches back. I haven't work on such problem myself, but probably of on the switching transistors is dead.
Haven't seen this problem mentioned or haven't bookmarked anythign of transistor switching, so perhaps this small piece of info and a bump might help.

See if you can download the schematic for your pedal.  There's a circuit archive that probably has them, but I don't have that link handy. There are usually 2 FETs hooked up as a flip-flop, I believe...not hard to locate on the schem, they are "X'ed" together and will be near where it says "switch".  Check those, one or both could be damaged/or something is shorting with heat (the 10 minute thing).

As for the chorus, I'd suspect the pot took a hit, and something is loose where it connects to the board, or the pot itself may have been damaged...neither look like really hard repairs if you have the troubleshooting background.

My guess would be one or more solder joints have gone bad because of the shipping abuse. When the pedal is on, some heat builds up which could cause bad solder joints to either disconnect or reconnect. This could explain why it takes a while before it goes bad.
