whammy AC PSU noise

Hi,

Just putting together a new pedal board at the moment. Everything working fine and fairly noiseless. That is, everything that is powered by my Voodoo Lab PP2. However, that all changes when I turn on the AC power supply for my Whammy. As soon as this is activated I seem to get a fair bit of noise especially when using certain effects and especially my Cry Baby. I can almost remove all the problems by moving the AC power supply away from my board, so that suggests the transformer is inducing noise in other effects due to its physical location. I could just leave it like that, but that defeats the object of being able to just open up and plug and play. I would obviously prefer to keep the PSU mounted on the board, but at the moment, even my noise gate can't cope with it!!

Anybody else come across this?

Is my only option to not fit this PSU to my board?

You've already sorted out the options.

- you could have a defective Whammy PSU. Try another at a dealer's, and if it does the same thing it's a design flaw.
- given that the PSU is not defective, then you have choices to make
  > move it to where it doesn't interfere
  > replace it with a different brand/kind of power supply that doesn't interfere
  > don't use the Whammy.

Thanks for responding.

I tried using the PSU from my Variax close to the board as that's also 9v AC. I must admit, it wasn't much better. As you confirmed, I think its a case of keeping it off the board or loosing the Whammy. To be honest, I find the Whammy noisy at the best of times and only use it on two tracks anyway, Maybe It's time to say goodbye to the Whammy as my wah gets much more use....

That's strange about the noise. I used a Crybaby, Whammy and 5 boss pedals, all powered off of the Boss TU-2 tuner and never had an issue with noise from the Whammy, even while powering everthing from the same outlet strip.
