Hi, I used a power adapter for my MXR with a 9V adapter. It worked well a couple of times just like when a battery was used. But one morning it wasn't working. The LED indicator worked well I even replaced the IC but still it was the same.Later I remembered thesame power adapter damaging my pocket amp IC.

This adapter is a universal 1.5-12V output 1A.Can anybody explain what went wrong.Or just suggest what is the component that can get damaged next to the IC?

Izzy

I had same problem.
My mxr went fine.

But with this tube screamer I have some problem. Yesterday it was working fine. Then it burnt LED. I changed it yesterday, Then played for few mins. And today mourning I tried to turn it on. and there is this BIg hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm\\sound.  Is it possible  that it damaged my IC?

Anybody knows this?

First thing I would do is, with your meter, check your voltage coming from your power supply. Chances are it exceeds 9v, even at that setting. Then, open the pedal up and check the electrolytics and verify they are rated for a higher voltage than what the adapter is producing. It's likely that you fried an electrolytic cap.

I appreciate your help sir.

But As far as I remember all my caps are atleast rated at 16 v.
And my adapter is giving me 14v!!
So I think that should not be a problem.
But still I will go back do as you said.

To the original poster:If your caps are ok, check the datasheet for the IC. When you replaced the original IC, did you socket the new one?

To Izzy:also check the polarity of the barrel of the power supply, should be tip negative.
