I don't know, but ETI has published a couple of projects like that.

CMOS inverters make up nice fast triggers to replace slow comparators...

Paul Perry (Frostwave)

When I've fooled with comparators, it has never been a speed problem, at least it has never been a problem of SLOWNESS. It's usually been the comparator oscillating (they can be very layout sensitive because of the high gain) or switching back and foward at a high frequency when it switches, due to noise.
So the advantage of an inverter doubtless is the inbuilt schmitt trigger.
As for the CD4066, I don't think there is any problem there, if it is wired right. A 100 ohm or so on resistance isn't going to be a hassle.
The trouble I have had with PWM systems, has been not getting a stable narrow pulse when it is nearly "off", but that is probably a noise & layout problem.

Could I possibly also get a copy of the schematic? necrasov_AT_gmail_DOT_com
