Hi everyone, this is my first post here.
I'd like to build a pedal that has a sound similar to the asonix nite owl
http://www.guitareffectspedals.com/asonix.html

Does anybody know of a diy pedal that has this kind of sound?

Paul Perry (Frostwave)

I listened to the samples, but I couldn't hear what the pedal was doing (if anything!). I guess that is why I have to make ring modulators & bitcrushers!!
Seriously though, what is it doing? Can anyone tell by listening?
Maybe it would help if every FX had a clip of white noise running thru it, for comparison purposes.

It sounds a lot like a BSIAB2 to me, maybe with a bit of compression up front.  And a modified tone control, more like a Big Muff Pi?

I agree. Completely useless soundclips. Is it so difficult to add a part with the pedal bypassed? At least, they could describe the rig (clean amp?, distorted?, tube or solid state?).

It's not even clear whether the FX loop is inserted before or after the effect. All they say is that you can inserts effects "between the FX Send and FX Return jacks"...

Hi everyone, this is my first post here.
  Welcome !!

After listening to the clips I wonder...
What it'd sound like through my amp.
Whether the distortion is mostly 'internal' to the pedal and what kinda amp [if any...probly] was used to record the clips, the reason I say 'probly' is because it looks like a 'Stomp yer amps input w/clippedboost' type pedal.
Something that hard clips, [double clips?], and boosts w/Tone Control...that'd be a good place to start...with moddy-board or breadboard build/testing would allow you to tune the clipping/boosting to you/your amps liking, but..I'm blind to your "X' factor.
Does anybody know of a diy pedal that has this kind of sound?
"X' factor can make huge difference, make or break the sound...the amp/speaker/guitar/effkts, any change in amp may cause the pedal to exhibit exponential differences in..every/anything about the sound.
  No...and I speak for anybody who doesn't say yes...lol
Here's what is needed for a pedal to sound:
  Guitar/pedal/Amp
  Here's what's needed for a soundclip:
  Guitar/whatever/recorder
To make a soundclip more appealing...
Chosen guitar/pickups, nice cabling, effekt[s recorder and you'll probably want to try
Tube Amp or...into 'better' speaker/tested chosen mic[s and mic placements, tube mic-pre?...[digital input only? cause I dunno really, always did better with mic etc.
Some post mixdown Dyn Comp reverb and Eq can substantially improve what comes out of:
  Our monitor speakers.
  The clip sounds great.
All that^ [psheesh] and then just build...
  Boost/clipperss
There are just so many ways [becoming more finite IMO] to skin a clipper...
I think a beefed up/filtered down DIST+, Rat, OD250 etc. could get pretty close to that, as could...a host of others...Jfet distorters, beefed up TS [TS w/pre-boost], sounded maybe like a diode to ground clipper to me,
?>whether OA's or were used Tranny's used to gain up...I guess the N.O. is not a digital device...

They do say that the output volume controls the amount of signal going to the send, which makes me think the effects loop is after the effect.  This strikes me as totally useless.

It sounds to me like a simple compressor (SSM2216?) running into a tube screamer.  They preset the gain on the TS, and the sustain knob controls the threshold of the compressor.

That's my guess.
