Bit of a newbie question here..so please accept my apologies.

I've swapped the dc jack in my big muff for a 2.1mm dc jack.  Pedal works fine but when I hook up the battery snap and power the pedal with a battery it still works but the LED doesn't work.

any ideas what this could be? Should I really be changing the jack?

look forward to your (any) replies.

thanks

hey. i've got some ideas.

first off, the boss style 2.1mm barrel jack is surrounded by plastic, isn't it? as in it's not metal on the outside and shorting to the enclosure? just making sure of that first.

second, do you have the negative tip of the LED hooked up to the exact same source as the pedal runs from? i'm asking because it's possible that if you are running this pedal off the same power supply as other pedals, the positive may be going to it correctly but the negative is being sourced from the audio jacks and shielding. which share a common power supply with your other pedals?

if it's not already, try hooking up the LED to the exact same + / - terminals that the pedal uses, since you know that's already running.

if nobody else has any ideas, you should be able to work it out with a DMM pretty easilly. don't worry about it as you've probably just done something silly. probe it with a DMM to make sure the correct voltages are going to the correct places with and without the battery.
