Quite different prototyping method!

the new craze for obfuscating circuits? when someone would go and open it up they'd only find "weird green blob component that is connected directly to switch", add a bunch of buzzwords such as transparent/warm/creamy/etc... and you've got yourself a $400 overdrive pedal  :icon_razz: :P

Imagine buying a pedal and finding that inside...  :-X

Or opening up a vintage pedal and seeing that.

Oh well, gotta call the pedal customer support and order another Blobular Cluster for 200 bucks. :)

Actually, this is just another step up from StewMac's Black Ice.

That's darned cute.

I can see that one as something to go in "Dirty Tricks".

Potted modules have been around for a long time - like the 50's - but that's a really good application.

Clever.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

man, i give this guy way more credit than that.  at least it would be sort of challenging.  the black ice is just two parallel schottky diodes, so i hear.  both are pretty lame anyway.

I was just stating the fact that the dipping method isn't anything totally new and there's a product applying that method. Going active is quite a step up, gotta admit that. He gets loads of credits from me. :)

Ooh ooh, what about cement-dipped IC's? Lots of exploring as far as dipping materials go. Now you have a chance to make your own Integrated Circuits dipped into... silicon! (you know, the rubbery stuff they use on constructions) :icon_idea:

Paul Perry (Frostwave)

Looking at the rest of his site, I don't think he is "blobularising" to be cute, it's just that he builds minimum size stuff to put circuits inside jacks & mod commercial audio stuff... the advantage of blobbing for that application, is it stops stuff shorting out afterwards.
