DIY delay pedals to replace my dd5? Rebote?

So through my perusing of the internet forums, I've discovered that these DIY pedals are a lot more cost-effective than name-brand pedals, even if they're used. Plus it's more fun to make your own, anyways. And with a taptation set, it'll have just as many features! (minus the other doodads that I don't use)

There are some DIY analog delays out there, but what about digital delay?

Is the Rebote "digital" enough to replace my DD5?

I've never used a DD5, but I've built a few Rebote 2.5s and they've all come pretty close to my MXR Carbon Copy. I like the Carbon Copy a little bit more, but it's not a circuit I can build myself, so the Rebote will have to do for DIY stuff. It gets dirty on longer delay times though. The Deep Blue Delay is worth checking out too. It's another PT2399 delay circuit. Madbean has a layout in the members' section of his forum.

A DD5 offers so much more than what a PT2339 based delay does (rebote etc) the PT2339 is a digital chip. There are other options in the DIY area, one of which is the Spinsemi FV-1 chip butif you want to customise the chip to the effect you want you will need to learn the program code for it.

Please at least have 1 forum post before sending me a PM demanding something.

Merlin (Valvewizard) has a pretty nice looking version called the 'Small Time' which I was planning on building. This link has all the info and some sound clips, see what you think:

I like the end of that sample clip best. All in all it just looks like a nicely designed yet simple build - much less components than most delays
Piss poor playing is why i make pedals.

Yeah I looked at that one. What would you say are the sonic differences in the Deep Blue and Rebote?

in my opinion the rebote is good for short/medium delay time, maybe you can try the PT80 at GGG http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/projects/20-modulationecho/125-pt-80-delay very nice-sounding and warm delay. Uh..tomorrow Madbeanpedals releases a new delay pedal :o

Oh yeah, I've been watching out for that one, with modulation right? I love his baby boards

Recently finished a delay of 800 mS with pt2399´s, if anyone interested can give you the layout and other data.

I'm interested if it's simple enough?  ::)

I agree. I have been using my DD-5 since the late 90s. If I want shorter delay times, I'll use my Arion SAD-1 or my Wampler Analog Echo pedal (which seems to be much like the Rebote to me). A nice analog-ish sounding delay pedal is the Ibanez DDL. I use that one sometimes too.

In any case I wouldn't compare a DD-5 with any kind of PT2399 circuit.
