Hi guys.
After MartyMart's rave review of the Meteor circuit, I just had to give it a try.
I put a layout together using JC Maillet's modified Meteor schematic (http://www.lynx.bc.ca/~jc/meteorModded.gif).
The layout, PCB, and build pix are in my gallery: http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album93

The circuit went together quite easily - all drains behaved...  fired up first time.  I demo'd the circuit in front of my 36" tube TV and had NO SQUEEL OR HISS when gain and volume were maxed (much of the time, my HB's will pick up noise from the TV...quite annoying, but that's magnetism...).  When I engaged the 'Lead' switch, there was a little hiss - but no squeel.  I was very excited!

...and the verdict...
It's a great sounding circuit - will definitely get a box!  Very similar to the Dr. Boogey hi-gain sound - but not as good at the 'chugga-chugga' palm muted thing (most of what I've been playing lately).  It could really use a tone control as the general feel is pretty dark.  I'm not sure the full tone stack would be necessary though... the 'Lead' 'channel' definitely adds the right amount of treb.

After I finish today's other project, I'll try to put together a couple sound clips for your amusement.

I'm very interested to hear about anyone using my layout for this circuit - hopefully the results will be consistent.

Superb Mike - glad that you're enjoying it :D
Doug has hinted at some tone control ideas in my thread - go see !

Looks good! I need to work something out. I think i'll Put in Mark's Stupidly Wonderful Tone control as it does work well at the end of the line to control brightness. I've used it a couple times so far and me likey.
Thanks for doing up the Layout.
