output level display

hi everyone,

i would like to put a output level display in my board, to show the signal level when playing, like a mixer...
i will put the Craig Anderton's volume pedal retrofit find at http://www.tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=2 at the output of the board,

anyone have a schematic or idea how to do it?

i think that the lm3914 would be usefull, but since it need a low and high voltage as reference , i need to find somewhere to plug the line for the signal....
