OHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOO

IT DOES NOT WORK.  I HAD IT WORKING WITH THE BOARD OUT SIDE OF THE ENCLOSURE.  BUT WHEN I ATTACHED STANDOFFS AND PLACED IT INSIDE IT DID NOT WORK.  I SAW SOLDERS THAT WERE BENT AND IT LOOKS LIKE THAT IT MIGHT HAVE SHORTED OUT A COUPLE PARTS.  I TESTED AND POSTED MY NEW RESULTS.  I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP

THANKS HENDRIX2489

Q1
C = 9.8V
B = 0V
E = 0V

Q2
C= 9.8V
B= 1.5V
E= 3V

IC1
1 - ~4.5v
2 - ~4.5v
3 - ~4.5v
4 -  0v
5 - ~4.5v
6 - ~4.5v
7 - ~4.5v
8 - 9v

Don't worry, you broke the connection between Vbias and Q1. Q2 is also affected but the opamp seems fine. So trace the routing of the 4.5V line and you should find your problem.

not to hijack, but it appears that the weird coincidence of tubescreamers going wacko has affected me as well. my factory commercial unit (no mods except a blue LED) went on the fritz today. it's just my backup, as i have a modded one on the pedal board. i plugged it in though as i was toying with the idea of running 2 on the board, and the level pot doesn't work all of a sudden. the gain works as both gain and level, so i'm guessing there is a broken connection in there somewhere...

everything is working but i have low output, and  these are my new readings:

Q1
C = 9.8V
B = 2.5V
E = 3.5V

Q2
C= 9.8V
B= 2.5V
E= 3.5V

The same 4.5V you have going to the IC should be connected to the bases of the transistors (through a resistor, probably 510K). Trace that connection through. Measure the voltage on each side of the 510k resistor. What is the part number of the transistors you are using? The base voltage should be higher than the emitter.

on each 510k resistor; it reads on 1 side it reads 4.5v and on the other it reads 1.5v

transistor #2N3904

Are you using a layout/board from the internet? Most of them have the pinout for the 2SC1815 which is Emitter, Collector, Base. The 2n3904 has the pinout of Emitter, Base, Collector.

The 2n3904 has lower beta than the 2SC1815 and tends to require a little more base current. So the 510K resistors drop a little more voltage with the 2n3904. However not as much as what you are seeing.

i am using the board of general guitar gadgets and it reads from top to bottom  E      B       C

i also tried taking out the two diodes, not the jumper, and the output went up considerably

Doesn't look good for the transistors, do you have any more to try?

hendrix2489

i tried it with two other transistors and i still have the same readings,  the pedal sounds good but its readings are not right

hendrix2489

i got it working again thank you, just wondering what i should put on the enclsure to protect the solders on the board
