Hi,
can I use ROG flipster circuit as bass preamp in combination to some audio power amp (20W or so). Can it do cleaner sounds as well with gain set back?
Tnx

yes in theory, but the Flipster is one trick pony. Definitely, I woldn't use it as a preamp. very good as a booster -OD for bass,,,,,,

The flipster is not a "one trick pony" !

The overdrive is great at lower settings, but where this really shines (I think) is as a preamp. The bass player that I built it for uses it on her Peavey Mark VI Bass head and a ( 2x8" +1x15")  cabinet. It makes an otherwise generic sounding bass rig have incredible tonal variation and that Ampeg character. Will it drive a power amp? I think that it won't. I don't know enough about it, but I'd say the impedance between the pre and the power would be an issue. Maybe the voltage output as well. There probably is some way of matching it up, I'd bet. The next time she's here, I get her to leave it and I'll experiment with the amp. It's got pre in and main out so I could try it as a preamp. She's coming by tomorrow night , so I'll post back after that.

  Probably
A booster would make the amp 'sound'...Loud is another story, clean/loud probably takes more of a preamp.

I agree, the Flipster has much more than "one trick" and it may well work OK into a power amp.
Depends on what the PWR amp wants to "see" at it's input .... 1V at least I would guess.
It may work better as an 18V version though, rather than 9V

Or..since you are well versed in tube-fu you could make a 12ax7 high voltage adaptation of the Flipster.

The one I built for our bass player as a pedal sounds superb and really enhances the bass sound though whatever amp we're using. It is VERY susceptible to low battery voltage though and is best used with a 9v adapter.

yeah, but I don't think that bass amp will benefit much from tubes. I like tube smooth lead tone for solo guitar. Besides, it's for my dad, he wants something unexpensive.

Cheers
