I built this circuit for a friend of mine. Not being familiar with the original, I have a question. When the 100k pot is turned all the way down, there is no output from the pedal. Is that right?

How would I make it so the output is unity gain (or close) with the knob turned down?

sfr

Figure out what the resistance value on the pot for unity gain is, and then add an equivalent resistor in series with the pot to ground so that at the pots minimum rotation the resistance to ground is still enough you get signal?

adjust the knob to unity gain. Take the pot out WITHOUT moving it. Measure resistance across on pot. Put a resistor of the same value between ground and the pot(and reinstall the pot). Now it won't turn down below unity.

Edit: beat me to it... yeah, what sfr said...
