Pspice....

Ok I've seen some reference to Pspice in here lately from what I can see it looks like a valuable tool. Can someone shed a bit of light on it pro's and con's etc where to get it and any good on-line resources for it

Ok I have doen some googling and found that there are loadsa different people offering spice for download,

need to find a version that is Free hopefully user friendly and for windows any ideas?

If you can find a student copy of Circuit Maker, try that. A lot of people here seemed to have an easier time of learning it than most of the others.

You used to be able to download the student version of Pspice from their website. They were bought by someone and then someone else. They're owned by Cadence now, so I don't know where the link is. I did find this in a google search. http://electronics-lab.com/downloads/schematic/013/ It's a little tricky to get working, and it's not 100% accurate in its simulations, but it will help.

I use Linear's LTspice/SwitcherCAD III program. Does the job pretty well, and there's a Yahoo group all about it.

I just downloaded the LTSpice/SwitcherCAD III. It's really user friendly and easy to operate. And free. I just don't know how to insert a pot in my circuit ... ?

Actually does anyone have a library of our favourite germanium trasistors?

You can download a pot model from the LTSpice Yahoo group. Along with lots of other models. I've installed J201's, pots, and LM358's so far, I need to grab their TL071 models, still looking for a LM308 model, though. Sign up for the Yahoo group, there's lots of extra models you can download from there.

Actually is there a possibility to simulate changes of voltage/current in dependence on a value sweep of any particular piece (resistor/pot/cap ...)?

I'm not certain what exactly you mean, I just use the transient analysis of Voltage over time. I don't think you can have it sweep parts values in the plot. I've never done that. To look for that kind of thing I just run one plot, then change a value, run again, change, run, etc.

Most Pspice software has something called a parameter sweep. You define a particular device as a variable (resistor, capacitor, inductor, voltage supply, etc.) and in the simulation setup it allows you to set the start value, end value and step size. I'm not familiar with LTspice but it probably supports something similar.
