I have been playing around with the Boss BD-2 for bass. I did some of the Keeley mods:

  • Replaced C14 with 0.1uF - not worth it, the stock 0.047uF is good enough for my ears
  • Replaced C100 with 0.1uF - Keeley's fat mod
  • Replaced D3 with 1N4002
  • Replaced D7,D8 with one 1N4002

So far so good. The diode mods are to get more even harmonics. Keeley recommends using a switch for the fat mod.

But while mucking around I found that C27 is another mod possibility. The stock C27 is 0.0022uF. I measured the corner frequency at roughly 250Hz. So putting a larger cap in will give you more bass. I soldered in a socket for C27. I would try 0.022 or 0.01.

I do like it better with a larger cap but the distortion does get more extreme.

Oh, and if you want to try using a blend be warned! The BD2 inverts the output!
