Does anyone know if the Lord of the rings tremolo ever came to be?  I was seaching for something different when I came a cross a reply that R.G. left for someone regarding a tremolo that he was planning on releasing.

The post was from 2000 so I checked the Geo site but could not find it.  Is there truley one trem to rule them all?

R.G.

Near as I can tell, he never released that one.  :)

That was one of those things that your first effort is 90% of the way to perfect, and you think that the other 9% will be easy.

Mother Nature had some lessons lurking inside that one for me. A diode ring modulator is easy to do moderately well, but as hard as any of the other tremolos to do brilliantly.

Diode ring modulators work great, and if you do a good job of matching the diodes and balancing the drives, they are as good as any trem I've ever heard. Did you see that "if" lurking in there? They also suffer from noise problems as you have to keep the signal voltage down in the 10-20mV range for them to work well, and then you get noise from amplifying the signal back up.

Sorry - a promising beginning that's not all that much better than what we have.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

R.G. thanks for the reply.  Sorry to hear that one didn't work out.  Guess I'll just have to make due with the dozens of other tips, tricks, tidbits and circuits you've shared with us.  Thanks agian.  :)
