This is an attempt to get Jack to elaborate on how the harmonics of the clipping produced by this circuit differ from typical clipping.

Also, the AMZ CD has a lot of cool stuff on it, if you haven't checked it out yet.   :icon_cool:

ive wondered how the RPB would work as a recovery stage AFTER a tone control like the big muffs ? the different harmonic content might be interesting, and IIRC, the 12dB or so gain should be plenty...

just a thought.

This circuit is using a transistor oriented against its typical operating conditions...  when it is driven hard, the signal has a tendency to "fold-over" as the current flow tries to reverse into the normal direction.  This fold-over adds some interesting harmonics.  The clipping is totally unlike that from diodes or even boosters driven into clipping.

The specific transistor characteristics will have a lot of influence on how it performs in the circuit...   modern heavily doped transistors actually are not as interesting as older devices.

what types of devices have you tried like this , Mr Orman? I'd like to experiment a little... and don't have 0c44's or ac128's on hand :)
