Heat shrink in very tough to melt,

You must be using nicer stuff than I've got then.  ;)   (Hence my question above)
sent from my orbital space station.

If you happen to live in Canada heat guns go on sale all the time at Canadian Tire for like, $12, great buy and works perfect for heat shrink.

ghee guys, you give yourself so much trouble....  :icon_eek:

i slip the HS tube on the wire, solder the wire, pull back the HS tube over the freshly soldered joint, work the tip of my soldering iron around the tubing until it shrinks... even if i accidentally touch the tubing for a few seconds with the tip, it doesn't melt it at all....

Me too. If I had multiple - 10-20 - to do I might use a dedicated tool, but I've never had a problem using the barrel of the soldering iron.
